"Jocks like him always want freaky girls. Girls with horn-rimmed glasses and vegan footwear and Goth makeup. Girls who play the cello and wear Converse All-Stars and want to be children’s librarians when they grow up. Oh yeah, jocks totally eat that shit up. They just won’t admit it because they’re supposed to be into perfect cheerleaders"
This totally reminds me of my Hubs. He is your regular preppy-khaki and a polo, beach vacation, golf playing, tennis and soccer coach-guy. I don't think he owns a black t shirt.
Me? I am a funny t shirt, retro styled, tattooed, horn rimmed glasses, cherry cola highlights, guitar playing kind of gal. To me I think its sometimes odd to see us together because we appear to be so different. In fact, we have very similar personalities but if you are judging a book by its cover-which most do- it appears that we are opposites.
I say this because, well, this Saturday I am going to prom! It is my first prom. I never attended functions when I was in high school. We are stopping by, not chaperoning, so hubs can see his students. This is the first year he has consecutively remained at a school for four years in a row. So students attending prom he would have had in ninth grade and up. So this equates to about a half hour to an hour long visit. Shiny, glittery, bedazzled prom gowns are NOT me. At all. The dress I ended up finding and falling in love with is like a vintage style or a party dress type thing with skulls on the bottom. I had to wait before purchase because I needed to find out if this tea length would be chaperone/teacher appropriate for stopping by. I received the "go ahead" yesterday so I went to try it on and purchase it . I will be wearing these darling shoes:
I have a funny story to my shopping excursion I will share :
So while trying on said dress yesterday the sales lady was very lovely. She offered to give her opinion since I was shopping solo and if I needed anything or had any questions to let her know. So I took the dress in to the dressing room. It took me forever to figure out how to put it on because it has these weird strappy things and then the little shirt is sewn onto the dress so you have to confondle (totally just made that up) your arms into that and the zippy is on the side and I was SO confused! After ten minutes, I got the thing on. I wanted to see it without my shoes ( White and Black NB tennis shoes..not flattering with a dress) so I had to get those guys off..then I snapped a pic with my camera phone of me in the dress to send off for opinions. After this I dressed in my regular clothes. As soon as I put my scrub top back on I was then trying to figure out the strappys on the dress in order to get it back on the damn hanger..another process. Here comes "Nicey Sales Lady". She bangs on the door and asks if I'm okay.
Ummmm, Yes. Thank you.
Then she asks if I need any help.
Then she opens the door! To MY dressing room!! Is this normal?? Who does this?
I have personal space issues. That was not an open offer to come on in and hang out! What if I was in my knickers??
Who invited you ass clown?!!
I was slightly taken aback. Hmm...maybe I'm just old fashioned but I do not like to undress/dress in front of strangers. Sales lady or not. :)
Tuesday Tunes: Week 79
Word Association Week:
Talking with Ma the past two nights and religion keeps coming up and we have different views and beliefs systems. She asked me what I had against organized religion. I thought this was funny because I don't normally share my beliefs with people because this discussion never goes anywhere productive if both parties are not open minded. By open minded I mean, NOT, that you need to compromise YOUR beliefs, but only, do not judge me for mine. Most folks don't know anything about my beliefs and I am fine with this and I am not going to spill them here on the world wide web. I just wanted to repeat some valid points that were brought up in discussion because I think they are important in life, not just religion. So keeping with the subject here goes: ( thanks for the blog topic Ma :) )
Manic Monday! Play Here!
Manic Monday #165
What's the best summer job you ever had? I worked at the P.D. Brown Memorial Library over the summer of 9th grade. I did office work, which was kind of boring. My most favorite part was puttting the books away. That old library smell, the organization of it all and feeling like for the first time I was apart of something. I loved it.
Tell me about the worst date you ever went on. It involved a guy named james and a scary clown, who james had cleverly told my name so it could taunt me.
Do you think the age for a driver's license should be raised (currently 16 here in the U.S.)? I am Switzerland on this subject. No opinion, nuetral. I think it is what is.
1. What are your current obsessions? Always and forever: Jim <3
2. Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often? Hmm..do shoes count? My black NB. Other than this..my old Jimmy Eat World Map shirt. It's worn in and just so comfy.
3. What's for dinner? I'm going to just have some instant mash with gravy tonight.
4. Last thing you bought? The Republic Tiger album.
5. What are you listening to? All I Want To Do Is Rock-Travis
6. If you were a god/goddess who would you be? I am, therefore..I am.
7. Favorite holiday spots? My house. On my couch.
8. Reading right now? I am finishing Dead Until Dark. My little book club at work decided we would read it and all three gals hate it! It's interesting to say the least. I realized I hated it about half way through so I now feel obligated to finish it. I only have about 20 pages left. I am thinking of reading The Shack next. Or Alice in Wonderland. Have not decided.
9. 4 words to describe yourself. Smart, Witty, Silly, Artistic
10. Guilty pleasure? Music, gigs, guitar playing
11. Who or what makes you laugh until you’re weak? Michael Scott.
12. Planning to travel to next? I don't know. No plans at the moment.
13. Best thing you ate or drank lately? I cheated yesterday and had a Turtle sundae from Brewsters. This is one of TWO I have had in like 8 months. So I am not doing so bad.
14. When did you last get tipsy? Fourth of July last year.
15. Care to share some wisdom? Don't judge just because it's not for you. Do what you do as long as you are happy. Things that make you happy may not make someone else happy.
16. Nicest thing anyone’s ever said to you? Lately? I have two:
-"i love it! it's amazing! your voice is fucking amazing penny! why don't you just sing everywhere?" (after sending a recording of my latest guitar playing and singing)
-"Who is the lucky guy who gets to be on your t shirt?" (after viewing my I Heart Jim shirt)
The show last night was amazing. Firstly, no traffic driving there and I had the most perfect driving music <3 Clarity by Jimmy e.w. We were semi-late for the opener, a band from Kansas City called Republic Tiger. They were really, really good. Most times openers end up not being my style. It's a rare thing that I want to purchase the openers music after a show. Aside---> This is actually how I found Travis. Back in 1999 I went to see Oasis play and Travis opened for them. Their set blew me away! The following day I went out and purchased The Man Who and I have been a fan ever since. Each album consistently gets better. Okay back to Republic Tiger<-- I was so very impressed by RT. They kind of sounded like a more alternative version of The Cure. I purchased their album on itunes this morning. Lead singer:
Look strikingly like someone I know?? ha ha.. Always nice.
Travis was absolutely phenomonal. Remember my set list wish list from yesterday? yeah, they played everything on it. Even Blue Flashing Light, which I was stoked about. They also played All I Want To Do Is Rock which is amazing everytime I see it live. They ended with Why Does It Always Rain on Me and a beautiful acapella version of Flowers in the Window. It made me smile :) Which made me feel like a giant goober. ha ha. I love seeing Travis. Their fans and so warm and welcoming and they are all about the music and the band really connects with the audience everytime. This show is falling into one of the greatest shows I have been to.
As far as the B & E incident, I parked in a gated parking lot behind the club. Upon exiting the club Brian observed: "Hey Penny, Your car is still here!". ha ha ha. This after asking me upon arrival if I hired an armored sniper to watch over it while I was inside. Another reason I love Brian...While driving him to the PennAve Metro, direct quote: "Make this light! If you do not make this light I will hate you. Randomly. I will just randomly hate you".
ha ha..Needless to say I made the light.
All in all, great night. I am making it through work alright as well. I had some killa coffee from kc.
blog title: flowers in the window by Travis
The Music Memoir Five on Friday! If you have not been to this blog, check it out. It's pretty rad!
Of course I am obligated to say Jimmy Eat World <3 They are currently writing new stuff. Can't wait for the end result. I'm sure I will love it.
Tonight is Travis! Excited to see them again. An old concert buddy, Brian will be meeting us at 930 Club to hang out. Should be a good time. It always is! I don't know of a set list. I can usually tell you the entire set list to a Jim show before I attend but anyone else..I'm clueless. Here are a few favourites I am hoping to hear tonight:
Tuesday Tunes: Week 78
To summarize my weekend: I finished Edgar Sawtelle. Very sad to be done with it. I find that I grow quite attached to some characters in books. Especially those who are well written. It was an amazing book. I'm excited that my friend B over at You Take The Cupcake is reading. Can't wait until she finishes <3
Describe to me your favorite lounging clothes. Right now? A loose fitted plain white t <3>
"All her life she had found whatever she had been asked to find and there had only been one thing ever. Now he was truly lost, gone away, crossed into another world, perhaps, some land unknown to her from which he could not return...She stood broadside in the gravel and turned her head and asked her question. Asked if it has seen her boy. Her essence. Her soul. But if the traveler understood, it showed no sign."
I will say nothing of the story because I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who may pick up this book..Only that I hope you do. Give it chance. It's truly worth it.
I love taking pictures. I wanted to go out last Saturday but it ended up raining all day, all weekend. This week has been one rainy mess as well. My weather man said this morning that Saturday looks like it will be 70 degrees and clear! I am very excited about this and I really want to get out there. I found a photography challange community that I am going to participate in called Thursday Photo Challenge. Basically they give you a theme and you go out and photograph your interpretation of it throughout the week or select a previously taken photo on the subject. This weeks theme is SIGNS (Traffic, Building, Neon, Peace Signs, Graffiti, Religious).
Here it Goes:
